AMBIVALENCE IS THE NEW HOMOPHOBIA

The exhibition booth I designed for my university’s grad show focused on the theme “Ambivalence is the new homophobia”. It addressed the ongoing challenges faced by the LGBTQ community despite increasing acceptance. Research revealed that many LGBTQ individuals still experience discrimination based on their sexual orientation, leading to feelings of ambivalence. To convey this experience, I created an interactive art installation that engaged visitors through touch and sound. By utilizing a Bare Conductive Sound Board paired with Audacity software, tactile interactions triggered audio responses, immersing participants in the emotional journey of LGBTQ individuals. The goal was to raise awareness, foster empathy, and create a safe, welcoming space for all attendees. Through this project, I aimed to shed light on the ongoing struggles of the LGBTQ community and encourage dialogue towards greater understanding and support.
